Scott Adey Linforths’ 1on1 with Kal Yafai

CG5 would like to thank Kal Yafai who on 10th December became the first Britain ever to win a World title at Superflyweight, when he won the WBA Title, and also special thanks for donating a 1 on 1 training session for the silent auction at our fight event back in 2016.

The lucky winner was Scott Adey Linforth who got a real surprise today when he arrived for the session with our trustee Steve Edwards.

Its was an unbelievable day, described CG5 Trustee Steve Edwards,  firstly we had the gym exclusively, with only Scott, Kal Yafai and his trainer Max McCracken, so straight away you could tell this was going to be a pretty cool experience. Then Kal dropped in that Frankie Gavin, Britain’s first World Amateur Champion and 2 X British and Commonwealth Champion who challenged Kell Brook for the IBF World Welterweight title in 2015 was also on his way and was going to give Scott a sparring session as well, in all honestly neither of us could have expected that in addition to a 1on1 pad session with Kal who is clearly pretty busy at the minute, sometimes these things are a quick 10 minute job and a photo opportunity, not this time we were there for a few hours and I don’t think we would have been asked to leave either, if we hadn’t got to get on the road ourselves.

Steve would like to say a massive thank you to Max McCracken, Kal Yafai and Frankie Gavin for making Scott feel so welcome and that he was just one of the boys, absolute gentleman there was a bit of banter which put everyone at ease, they stopped for photos, shared stories, experiences and gave him a few pointers.

Steve spoke to Scott after and he was chuffed to bits to have had that once in a lifetime experience, although I would imagine after the Christmas excess poor old Scott will feel it tomorrow even though he is only 21.

Scott said;

Thanks to Steve, Kal, Frankie and Max for an amazing day. As a huge boxing fan it was surreal to be able to be in the company of two top professionals, one being a world champ. To also get the chance to spar with Pro boxer Frankie Gavin was unbelievable, I gained some invaluable experience which I’ll take with me into my next amateur bout.
